Huaraz (3,100 meters above sea-level) is located in the central part of the Valley “Callejón de Huaylas”, which is one of the best places in South America to enjoy wonderful mountain scenery and plenty outdoor activities such as trekking, mountain climbing, mountain biking, skiing and rafting. Callejon de Huaylas is called so, due to its location between the Cordillera Negra (Black Mountain Chain) and Cordillera Blanca (White Mountain Chain) which is covered with snow all year round. There are more than 50 peaks of 5,700 m or higher, among them Mt. Huascaran (6,768 m), which is the highest mountain in Peru. Huaraz is situated roughly 300 Km. north of Lima (7 hours by bus)
